Policy and Governance

The policy and governance division provides leadership over policy development and management for the WSU system. The division assists units systemwide with policy drafting and strategy and coordinates WSU’s administrative rulemaking process in accordance with the Washington Administrative Procedure Act (RCW Chapter 34.05).The division also oversees records retention and public records, helping to ensure legal and regulatory compliance as well as operational transparency.

On the governance side, the division works with WSU leadership in developing and reviewing Board policies and bylaws and is available to assist with developing and drafting Board agenda materials. In addition, the division provides administrative assistance to certain WSU-affiliated nonprofit entities and supports various compliance and risk management related projects systemwide.
